I wrote the following post in 2011, most of the information is still relevant...I hope you enjoy it. Be Blessed! In 2001, I was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy after a year-long journey with physicians, specialists and drugs that didn’t work & made the physical condition worse. I was FAT, EXHAUSTED, WEAK & and tired of falling all over the place. So, I’m one of Jerry’s Kids, where is my treatment? There was, I mean there is no treatment. Yup, that was my reaction. All those dang Memorial Day Telethons on TV the entire weekend and there is nothing the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) can do to get me better! Don’t get me wrong, the support at the MDA clinic @ Johns Hopkins was amazing. After seeing two different Rheumatologists, being referred to the National Institutes of Health, two muscle biopsies & numerous other tests/exams, I just wanted to know that I was going to get better…not worse. My prognosis, within 20 years I would be wheelchair bound. OMG, that was so depressing and upsetting for me. Me being who I am, I took on the challenge and decided that would not be me…. after a bone braking fall in November 2007, my fate was inevitable. Today, I use a power wheelchair 99% of the time.
Despite these things, I am HAPPY….I have PEACE in my heart. I have goals, dreams & desires that I plan to achieve despite my limited physical mobility. It took me a while to get to this point in my life; however, I am continuing to learn how to live with my limitations and live the BEST life I can. Stay tuned for more hilarious, encouraging tales of My Life…… Take care of YOU, Kendra
